Analytical Reflection on Oral Presentation

On the 10th of November 2016, I gave a short presentation on Implementation of Organic Recycling Compost at Singapore Institute Technology (SIT) Dover with my group members, Jasper and Edmund.  We prepared the presentation using the slides from Microsoft PowerPoint. For my slides, I chose to adopt Garr Reynolds' approach which is “Prepare, Design, and Deliver” as I thought that it was the most appropriate.

When preparing and designing the slides, I outlined the context to make sure it flowed logically and I supported my messages with visuals such as images and charts to keep it simple. I then conducted further research on the aforementioned topic and thought of the possible questions that might be asked by the audience so as to prepare myself for the question & answer session at the end of the presentation.
While presenting, I maintained eye contact with the audience and showed some enthusiasm in order to grab their attention. I had also tried to interact with them by asking rhetorical questions so that they could relate their experiences to my presentation. I hope that I can pass the elevator test by “selling” my proposal within a short period of time by doing all of these.
However, when I showed my enthusiasm, I did not realised that my pace was rushed. I should have slowed down so that the audience could understand my message clearly. Additionally, instead of fidgeting while presenting, I should have stood firmly in my position. On a brighter note, I am really glad that I had stepped out of my comfort zone to try this new presentation style.

Commented on Clara's, Jasper's and Camille's post.
